Carmela Caldart is Barcelona’s Brazilian firestarter.

Her characters don't just occupy space. They own it. Bodies draped in jewellery, reggaeton anthems and sun-scorched samba that syncopates with a visual breakbeat. It’s her ode to queerness, identity, and community. Her radiant aesthetic is infused with her heritage and the lively culture of Catalonia. “Being from Brazil, but having moved around a lot... I feel I’ve built up my own mix of cultures,” she notes, with a “nostalgia for the warm, vibrant and loud country I come from.” Caldart describes herself as an anti-perfectionist, a true Gemini, preferring authentic self-expression.

She loves the raw energy of sketching and the challenge of adapting her designs across formats, from digital illustration to ceramics. Intimacy is a constant theme – from honeyed mirror reflections to unwavering eye contact and tender embraces. It’s a vision that’s warmed the hearts of numerous big brands, including Vogue, Audi, and Amazon. The spark? “Being yourself is cool.”

What makes you different?

“In a world of straight lines and cold tech, my work offers a refreshing human touch.”

“I want people to connect with feelings, images, even the smallest animated gesture.”

Caldart’s art embraces the in-between, using color to turn ambiguity into a vibrant expression of diversity and inclusion.
